What is the cheapest, easiest, fastest, online masters degree possible?

Thursday Nov 20, 2008

I have decided to go for my masters. I want it to be the cheapest, easiest, fastest, online degree possible?
I live in Florida. I have decided to pursue a Masters degree. I haven't narrowed it down yet but it will most likely be one of these three; Special Ed, Ed leadership, or Psychology. My Bachelor's is in Psych. I have a teaching cert for both Psych and Special Ed.(ESE). I am finishing my sixth year of teaching ESE at the high school level. I am currently studying to take the middle grades integrated curriculum exa, which will earn me certifications in math, science, english and social studies. I get emails most every day from universities trying to recruit me. Now that you know a little about me, I would appreciate a bit of advice. To be honest, I want this to be as quick and painless as possible. I also know there are schools out there that meet my requirements, I just haven't searched for them yet. Please help. Thanks!

I want to start studying nursing, but don't know where to start..?

Thursday Nov 20, 2008

I'm currently studying criminal justice but am looking into studying nursing - I've checked everywhere online but it says the online degree programs, you must have an RN degree. I have NO clue where to start - does anyone know what the steps are to becoming a nurse? What colleges are best for nursing degrees? I can only do schooling online unfortunately - what do I need to get first??? This is just SO confusing!!

First you need to decide on if you want a 2 year degree (associates degree in nursing) or a 4 year degree (bachelor's degree in nursing), or you might want to take the 2 year program first and complete the BSN later (which you can do online at that point.)

2 year community college programs usually take more like 3 years because there are prerequisites you must take in biology, chemistry, anatomy & physiology, and maybe a couple more like microbiology or nutrition. For most schools, you need these completed before you can even apply to their nursing program. 2 year programs are very in demand, so the better your GPA the better off you'll be when it comes to getting accepted to a program. Call around to different schools and ask what their admission procedures are so you'll know what you're up against. Apply to more than one school, too - don't put all your eggs in one basket, so to speak.

If you were to go into a full 4 year BSN program, you complete all those prerequisites and your liberal arts studies your freshman and sophomore year, then start the nursing core in the junior year. These schools are also VERY competative - one reputable school in my state had a class average GPA (at admission) of 3.8.

Good luck!

Which school is good for online/distance master degree in sociology and cost about $5,000.00?

Thursday Nov 20, 2008

I need to do a Master degree program in sociology either online or through distance correspondence, I need an accredited school with affordable fees (not more than $5,000.00). Can somebody supply me with information on any english speaking online colleges offering master degree in social science.

First off, good luck in your MA! In looking for a school, look for the type of program that will be valuable to your future, as most Master's programs will be past $10,000, with the best being over $25,000 depending on the field and school of interest. I am taking my online MA with Boston University, but funding through federal loans and school loans through financial aid programs can help you decide. Call the office of Financial Aid, and talk to an adviser at the top 5 schools of your choice, as they might have the names of loans that best suit you outside of the normally offered loans. There are loans specifically for graduate students from main branch banks. It takes a lot of research, but in the end could save you big bucks, but your attendance at a school you can be proud of and not regret, as the other poster said, you get what you pay for. Also be careful as to making sure the online school is valid and real, as many offer degrees for under $5,000 but they are just degree mills and not real, so make sure they are real before handing over any registration or application fees.

Good luck in your future!

Does an online Masters degree carry the same weight as a conventional one? Does it carry any weight at all?

Thursday Nov 20, 2008

First thing you need to look at is the program accredited online? If it's not, I'd steer clear of it. I know there are alot of programs where you do most work on and take modular classes (for a week or two) on campus. Maybe that is a possibility. But I'd make sure the program you are looking at is accredited and do they give the same degree to those who take it on campus.

Learning Defect Predictors from Static Code Attributes: Lessons from the Tren…

Tuesday Nov 18, 2008

Google Tech Talks
October 29, 2008

ABSTRACT

For six years, I have worked on learning quality predictors from NASA data. Based on that experimence, this talk offers the following lessons from the trenches:

1) Real world data collection is more like ambulance chasing that bus driving. The old DoD model of rigorous process control just breaks down in the modern era of distributed software development. Rather than lament lack of formal process, we should adapt our learning methods to handle the idiosyncrasies of our data.

2) Accuracy, correlation and precision and not accurate or precise and may not correlate with any decision making process. This is especially true for data sets where only a small percentage of the data contains the target concept.

3) Static code attributes are a wide and shallow well- easy to get to the bottom, very hard to get much further. Our learners may have learned all they can learn from these attributes.

4) The only way up is sideways. My data miners have struck a performance ceiling and the only way up is to change the performance target.

5) The performance ceiling is very close- we can exploit that. Rather than large-scale automatic methods, it may be more productive to explore human-in-the-loop interactive learning strategies.

6) We can talk, but will they listen? Many times, I have found a clear signal in a software engineering data set. Clearly, our learners are good enough to assist managers in the difficult task of managing software projects. Sadly, all too often, some management edict is applied that effectively ends that project (e.g. collection of that data source is terminated). I offer some speculations on this peculiar effect.

Moms getting online degrees

Tuesday Nov 18, 2008

As children go back to a new school year, more and more of their mothers are also going back to school– without ever leaving their homes. Some of them also have jobs outside the home. Jennifer Rowland has earned her masters degree in business administration, without setting foot into a classroom. “I could be anywhere in the country, I could be anywhere in the world and I could still participate in class,” online student, Jennifer Rowland said.

Jessica managed to complete her Master of science in nursing/education degree at University of Phoenix while juggling the other responsibilities of her family and home life. At the same time, Joseph completed a degree at University of Phoenix. One class at a time, the couple made education work into their schedules. Now that education is incorporated into the Willifords lives, it was easier for Joseph to get his bachelor’s degree too.
